Like all abstract work, its interpretation is personal to the viewer. You may see something different than the artist intended. That is okay. How we respond to a piece of art sometimes reveals what we are processing internally, so you do need to stop and really give yourself to it, then you will know if you connect with the art or not.
This diptych represents the process of ‘letting go’.
The painting on the left expresses the thoughts, emotions and physical manifestations a person experiences when he or she is faced with unfamiliar circumstances. The screaming archaic-like head is unleashing the war within. The other figure, smaller and unassuming, understands the surrendering that must take place. They sit side by side in great contrast.
The painting on the right presents the journey. Even when your heart, mind and soul have come to terms with a circumstance, you still have no idea what is ahead. There is some light revealing a narrow path, but that is it. Like manna for the day.
Some days my state of mind would relate to one painting over the other, and vice versa. That told me something of how these two work together..not in unison, but sequentially ordered. This piece reminds me that I need to err on the side of grace when I relate to others as I do not know the journey they are on.
