Cows have all the time in the world. When I was kid and feeling down, I would go sit on the wall of the outdoor pen where the cattle were and sing to them at the top of lungs. By the time I was finished my first song, all of their heads were turned, not because I was such an awesome singer, but they really had nothing better to do! I obviously loved their attention because I did this numerous times throughout my childhood and it soothed my troubled soul. So when I saw the cows in Dufferin county one day driving to the city - that memory came back. I chose soft tones of colour and loose brushstrokes for this piece to give it that feeling of ‘bygone days’. The lay of the land draws you in gently and the ever so slightly, defined cows in the foreground tell you this moment has passed, but the fond memories remain. It’s just an easy piece to look at and enjoy - just like remembering those sweet memories of childhood for me and maybe for you too. When I was composing this piece, I had to have one cow looking at me as a symbol of why this piece was created. As if to say - remember when?
